Thanks to support from the fans, the #VoteGoldy initiative was a success and Paul Goldschmidt will be starting at first base for the National League at the All-Star game.
The 2014 MLB All-Star Game at Target Field in Minnesota can be seen on FOX on July 15 with coverage starting at 1:30 p.m.
Goldschmidt will be the first D-backs position player to start in the All-Star game since Luis Gonzalez in 2001.
Goldschmidt was in fifth place in the voting when balloting figures came out on May 28 and propelled past Adrian Gonzalez in the last few weeks to win the vote.
Through FOX Sports Arizona, D-backs pitcher Josh Collmenter told fans why they should vote, campaign advisors from First Strategic gave their advice and a special telecast took place on June 21 encouraging fans to vote.
Following the special All-Star telecast, Goldschmidt’s lead increased from just over 200,000 votes to over 700,000 votes. Goldschmidt ended up taking first place by a margin of over 1.6 million votes.
