Helping team partners and helping the community are two goals FOX Sports Arizona sets each and every year. On Aug. 27, the network offered tremendous examples of both as its Arizona Diamondbacks charity broadcast established a new fundraising record for the annual event.
When the telecast was over, $113,000 was raised, as viewers bought the unique items that were available for purchase during the game. On top of that, Western Refining had partnered with the D-backs to match donations up to $100,000, bringing the grand total to $223,000! All the money raised will go towards the D-backs Give Back Youth Jersey Program that provides Little League baseball & softball players around Arizona with D-backs uniforms and hats.
Starting with the “Diamondbacks Live” pre-game show and throughout the rest of the evening, viewers were urged by both the television crew and via social media to purchase any of these packages and they responded with an incredible show of generosity. In the first hour alone, over $24,000 was raised — and after two hours, the total skyrocketed to $70,000!
Counting this year, the last five FOX Sports Arizona/D-backs charity broadcasts have combined to raised $643,557 to help support Arizona charities and Arizona youth.
In the days leading up to the broadcast, FOX Sports Arizona promoted the event heavily on television, social media and FOXSportsArizona.com. Coaches, players and officials from some of the Little Leagues who have already benefited from the jersey program were guests on pre-game shows, D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall appeared in the booth the night before and Tony La Russa was a guest during the charity broadcast to further drive home reasons why viewers should support this important initiative.
